Kai Tak Airport operated as Hong Kong's main airport until July 1998 when it moved to the new Hong Kong International Airport in Chek Lap Kok. Pilots landing in Hong Kong tracked an offset signal to a checkerboard on a hillside, then flew manually through the city due to the nearby mountains and buildings.

Operating out of Kai Tak Airport whilst I was in Hong Kong was an exciting experience - everytime!!
